  • Quarterly payout: Interest paid on 31st March, 30th June, 30th September, 31st December
  • Joint account: Spouse can be joint holder — double the limit effectively (Rs. 60L combined)
  • Tax benefit: Principal qualifies for 80C deduction up to Rs. 1.5L
  • TDS: No TDS if interest is below Rs. 50,000/year (submit Form 15H if applicable)
  • Premature closure: Allowed after 1 year with 1.5% penalty; after 2 years with 1% penalty
