How Odisha Government Salary is Calculated
Calculating your Odisha government salary involves more than just your basic pay. Here's a complete guide to understanding every component of your monthly in-hand salary.
Salary Formula
Gross Salary = Basic Pay + DA (58%) + HRA (If applicable)
Net Salary = Gross Salary − NPS (10% of Basic+DA) − Professional Tax (If applicable) − Other Deductions (like GIS, Water tax, LIC premium, HBA Adavance deductions etc.)
Example Calculation
For a Level 9, Cell 1 employee (Basic: ₹35,400) in Bhubaneswar , not in govt quarters:
- Basic Pay: ₹35,400
- DA @ 58%: ₹20,532
- HRA @ 16% : ₹6,372
- Gross: ₹61,596
- NPS (10% of Basic+DA): ₹6159
- Net In-Hand: ~₹55,437/month

DA contributes the single largest allowance — at 58%, it adds more than half the basic pay to your gross. HRA is the second biggest allowance for employees not in government accommodation. Step 3 — Add House Rent Allowance (HRA)
Present HRA Rates are 16/12/8/4 % as per the place of posting. You can check your HRA percentage here. HRA is not applicable if you live in government quarters.
