Sikkim Govt Austerity Measures – Fuel Conservation Order (2026)

Subject: Promotion of efficient utilisation of Government assets and moderation of fuel consumption.

✅ Official Notification: In pursuance with the appeal of the Hon’ble Prime Minister for austerity measures, the Government of Sikkim has issued strict guidelines for the promotion of efficient utilisation of Government assets and moderation of fuel consumption, effective from 18/05/2026 (Monday).

🏛️ State-Level Measures

🚗 Carcade & Protocol

CM's carcade reduced by 50%. No Pilot Escorts for Speaker/Deputy Speaker (except in Gangtok). Protocol courtesies suspended.

🏢 5-Day Work Week

Offices function Mon-Fri. No vehicles allowed on weekends. 50% Work From Home (WFH) on roster basis.

🚙️ Vehicle Purchases

Prohibited for One Year (except Police/Emergency). Use of Electric Vehicles (EVs) strongly encouraged.

🚦 Odd-Even Rule

Odd-Even rule extended to all districts. Exemption windows withdrawn. Applies to all vehicles except taxis/two-wheelers.

⚠️ Odd-Even Rule & LPG Guidelines

Odd-Even: Currently in force in Gangtok, now extended to all districts. All exemption windows withdrawn until further orders.

LPG Monitoring: Allocation of extra LPG cylinders restricted. Extra cylinders granted only for Marriage Function and Death Rites as per specific notification.

👥 Meetings & Travel

All meetings to be conducted virtually. Physical meetings restricted to 2 officials per dept. Officials not to leave respective districts.

🚫 Foreign Travel

Official foreign travel of Ministers, MLAs, and officials remains suspended except for medical emergency.

🚐 Vehicle Usage

Weekend use prohibited. Pool vehicle services introduced. Fuel allotment reduced by 30%.

🏥 Medical Emergency

Under exceptional medical emergency, prior approval of District Collector is required.

ℹ️ Implementation of Guidelines:
1. Government vehicles on weekends prohibited (except emergency).
2. Fuel allotment (POL) for CM, Speaker, Ministers, and officers reduced by 30%.
3. Use of Govt vehicle in offices curtailed by 50%.
4. All officials and general public requested to extend full cooperation for energy conservation.
