Competition Themes

Theme I – Built Heritage of Odisha
Ancient monuments, temples, forts, historic buildings, heritage water structures (tanks and stepwells), archaeological sites, and other structures of historical, architectural or cultural significance.
Theme II – Intangible Heritage of Odisha
Festivals and rituals, folk and classical performing arts, oral traditions, traditional crafts, cultural practices, traditional occupations, and other forms of living heritage.
Theme III – Dying Art Forms of Odisha
Endangered art forms and traditions gradually disappearing – vulnerable performing arts, traditional crafts facing extinction, indigenous artistic practices requiring urgent documentation and preservation.

All shortlisted photographers receive a Certificate of Exhibition. All valid participants receive a Certificate of Participation. Cash awards subject to TDS under Income-tax Act, 1961.

Key Guidelines

  • Eligibility: Open to all Indian citizens. Photographs must depict heritage located within Odisha. Participants below 18 years need parent/guardian consent. Employees of Odisha Lalit Kala Akademi, Selection Committee members and their families are not eligible.
  • Submission: Only through online portal at culture.odisha.gov.in. Each participant may submit a maximum of 3 photographs in total under one or more themes.
  • Technical Specifications:
    Format: JPEG or TIFF
    Resolution: Minimum 300 DPI
    Size: Long edge not less than 3000 pixels
    Colour Space: RGB or Adobe RGB
    Editing: Only basic exposure, colour balance and cropping permitted. AI-generated images, composites, digital manipulation, overlays, borders and watermarks are NOT permitted.
  • Mandatory Information: Category (Theme I/II/III), Title, Date of Capture, Place/Location, Brief Description (≤50 words), Name, Address, Mobile, Email.
  • Judging Criteria: Relevance to Theme (25), Creativity (20), Technical Quality (20), Composition (15), Documentation Value (20) – Total 100 marks.
  • Ethical Clauses: No damage to monuments, wildlife or cultural practices. Obtain statutory permissions for protected locations and drone photography.
  • Copyright: Copyright remains with photographer. However, Odisha Lalit Kala Akademi gets a perpetual, non-exclusive, royalty-free right to print, publish, exhibit, archive and use shortlisted photographs for non-commercial purposes with due acknowledgement.
  • Deadline: 5:00 PM on 31st August, 2026. Entries received thereafter shall not be considered.

  • Max 3 Photos: Each participant can submit a maximum of 3 photographs in total across all themes.
  • Original Work: Photographs must be the original work of the participant. AI-generated images are strictly prohibited.
  • EXIF Verification: The Selection Committee may require the original RAW/JPEG image with EXIF metadata for authenticity verification.
  • Permissions: Participants must obtain all statutory permissions for photography at protected/restricted locations.
  • Drone Photography: Only permitted after obtaining requisite statutory permissions.
  • Selection Committee Decision: The decision of the Selection Committee shall be final and binding in all matters.
  • Exhibition: Shortlisted photographs shall be exhibited by Odisha Lalit Kala Akademi on a date to be notified separately.
  • Certificate of Participation: All participants submitting valid entries will receive a Certificate of Participation.

Will all participants receive certificates?
Yes. All shortlisted photographers whose works are selected for exhibition shall receive a Certificate of Exhibition. All other participants submitting valid entries shall receive a Certificate of Participation.
Who holds the copyright of the submitted photographs?
Copyright of the photographs shall remain vested with the respective photographers. However, Odisha Lalit Kala Akademi shall have a perpetual, non-exclusive, royalty-free right to print, publish, exhibit, archive and use the shortlisted photographs for non-commercial purposes with due acknowledgement.
