About School Recognition in Odisha
The Board of Secondary Education (BSE), Odisha grants recognition to schools to ensure they meet the prescribed standards of infrastructure, staff, and academic performance. Recognition is mandatory for schools to:
- Affiliate students for Class IX and X examinations
- Receive government grants and aid
- Maintain credibility and trust among parents
For the academic session 2026-27, BSE Odisha has invited online applications for Fresh Recognition, Renewal of Recognition, and RUFO (Recognition Until Further Order). This guide covers everything you need to know about the application process, eligibility, fees, and required documents.
Types of School Recognition
Fresh Recognition
- Schools granted Class-VIII recognition prior to 2013 by the Director, Secondary Education, Odisha
- Schools accorded Class-IX recognition by the High-Power Committee during 2023-24/2024-25/2025-26
- Eligible for: Class-IX/X/IX & X
Renewal of Recognition
- Schools accorded Fresh Recognition for 2023-24/2024-25/2025-26
- Schools (other than Govt.) whose Recognition is renewed every year
- Note: Apply simultaneously with Fresh Recognition if applicable
RUFO (Recognition Until Further Order)
- Schools accorded Fresh Recognition on or before 2023-24
- Schools whose Recognition is being renewed every year
- Note: Provides continued recognition without annual renewal

Fee Structure for Recognition
The following fees apply for different categories of recognition, inclusive of 18% GST:

How to Apply Online for School Recognition
Follow these steps to submit your online application for Fresh/Renewal/RUFO of Recognition:
Step 1: Visit the BSE Odisha Website
Open your web browser and go to the official BSE Odisha website:
Click on the prescribed link for "Grant of Recognition" to access the online application portal.
School Login
For Fresh Recognition: Click on "Register for Fresh Recognition". A temporary registration number (e.g., temp_0001) will be generated. Create a password and enter the school's name. Use this temporary ID and password for login.
For Renewal / RUFO: Log in using your existing School Code as the User ID and your existing Password.
Complete Dashboard Sections
Fill in all the required sections on the Dashboard:
- School Profile
- School Management
- Land/Building Details
- Employee Details
- Infrastructure and Other Details
- Upload Documents
Make Payment
After completing all sections, proceed to "Payment". Pay the applicable fee online as per the category (Fresh/Renewal/RUFO).
Print Application
After successful payment, click on "Final Print" to take a printout of the submitted application form.
Submit Hard Copies (Fresh & RUFO Only)
For Fresh Recognition and RUFO categories, submit the print copy of the application along with two sets of hard copies of all supporting documents to the concerned District Education Officer (DEO).
For Renewal: Hard copies are not required to be submitted to the DEO.

Important Points to Remember
- Government Schools: Deemed to be recognized and do not need to apply.
- Online Application Only: Applications must be submitted online through the BSE Odisha website.
- Hard Copies: Required only for Fresh Recognition and RUFO categories (2 sets).
- Renewal: Schools with Fresh Recognition for 2023-24/2024-25/2025-26 must apply for Renewal simultaneously.
- Fire Safety: Valid Fire Safety Certificate from the competent authority is mandatory.
- Academic Performance: Class IX result must be above 50% for the last two consecutive years.
- Fixed Deposit: ₹5,000 (Tribal Areas) / ₹10,000 (Non-Tribal Areas) pledged in favour of DEO.
