New Odisha Govt Fuel Rules: EV Mandatory, Virtual Meetings & Carpooling for Employees

View the announcement made by the Official Handle of Information & Public Relations Dept, Odisha
In view of the current West Asian situation, the Hon'ble CM has issued 8-point guidelines to reduce petrol & diesel costs in the state:

1. Meetings, reviews & trainings to be held in virtual mode unless absolutely necessary.

2. From June 1, 2026, it is mandatory for all new 2-wheelers & 4-wheelers purchased by govt to be Electric Vehicles (EVs).

3. Senior officers with govt vehicles must carpool; vehicle allowance halved.

4. Officers/employees to travel by bus or train for distant visits.

5. Electric bus services to be provided for employee commute.

6. All offices must reduce monthly fuel consumption by at least 10%.

These guidelines are effective immediately across all departments.
Odisha Fuel Guidelines

Implementation Notice

The Finance Department will issue detailed guidelines within 15 days regarding the eligibility of officers for personal vehicle use and implementation of the EV policy.

Summary of the 8-Point Guidelines

  • Virtual Meetings: Online meetings preferred.
  • Mandatory EV Purchase: All new govt vehicles from June 2026.
  • Carpooling: Officers to share vehicles.
  • Public Transport: Bus/train for long-distance travel.
  • Fuel Saving Target: Minimum 10% reduction in fuel use.
