Legal Authority: Order issued under Section 34 of the Disaster Management Act, 2005 by the Collector & District Magistrate, Kataka – cum – Chairperson, District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Kataka.
Weather Warning: Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar has issued an "Orange Warning" with prediction of heavy to very heavy rainfall for Kataka District, valid up to 08:30 hrs IST of 06.07.2026.
Threat Assessment: Anticipated severe weather poses significant threat of localized flooding, water logging, and increased water levels in the Mahanadi river system and its distributaries, endangering life and property.
Closure of Educational Institutions: All educational institutions (Government, Aided, and Private Schools, Colleges, and Anganwadi Centres) across Kataka district shall remain closed on 06.07.2026.
Prohibition of Activities in Water Bodies: Swimming, bathing, and any other recreational or commercial activities in the Mahanadi river and all its distributaries are strictly prohibited until further orders.
Enforcement: Commissioner, Kataka Municipal Corporation (CMC) and all Block Development Officers (BDOs) to promulgate restrictions via public address systems. All Inspectors-in-Charge (IICs) of Police Stations to strictly enforce prohibition.
Suspension of Construction Works: All major construction works, both public and private, across the district shall remain suspended on 06.07.2026. Exception granted only for flood management, emergency relief, and disaster mitigation works.
Closure of Sand Sairat Sources: Operation of Sand Sairat Sources in the District shall be closed till further order.
Penalty: Any violation of this order shall be dealt with strictly under sections 51 to 60 of the Disaster Management Act, 2005, and other applicable laws.
Effective Date: This order shall come into force immediately.
