In an office, some people keep their lunch on their desks. Sometimes, your lunch box stays next to your files, pens, and stapler.
Biswanath Babu is a Senior Assistant. He is famous for his Alu-Dum and Poori, which he brings every Thursday. He brings food only for himself, but the smell spreads all over the office.
What Happened on a Thursday
One Thursday, Biswanath Babu put his steel tiffin on his desk. Just before lunch, the Big Boss called him for an urgent signature.
Biswanath went to the boss's room and came back after five minutes.
When he picked up his tiffin for lunch, it felt lighter.
He opened the first box.
There were three pooris. He had packed five.
He opened the second box.
Some Alu-Dum was missing. Someone had eaten it.
The Question
Biswanath Babu did not shout. He looked around and asked quietly,
"Who ate my food?"
Lipun, the Junior Clerk, was chewing slowly. He said,
"Sir, I was only checking where the smell was coming from."
From Accounts, Mishra Babu wiped his moustache thoughtfully and said,
"Biswanath, I took just one small bite to check the salt. Your blood pressure is high. I was thinking of your health."
The Decision
Biswanath Babu looked at his tiffin. In this office, people eat others' food without asking.
He closed the tiffin and said loudly,
"Next Thursday, I will bring boiled bitter gourd (karela) and plain rice. You can eat as much as you want."
The office became quiet.
Lipun suddenly became busy with old files. Mishra Babu started talking about the weather.
